The process in 16 steps

  1. Make the decision that you want to study abroad. - It’s okay if you wanna do medicine in UON. A diamond is a diamond anywhere.
  2. Start revising for the SAT/ACT exam. - November after you graduate high school.
  3. Register and ace the SAT/ACT exam. (See schedule below)


  4. Get a common app account - Common app website opens August 1st
  5. Start drafting your common app essay/ supplementary essays - August - November
  6. Research as much as you can about the schools you may be interested in- August - November
  7. Submit your early decision application.- November 1st or November 15th for liberal arts colleges
  8. Interviews with college representatives; mostly alumni - November - December
  9. Work on your CSS profile/financial aid application - Deadline varies with school, but November 1st or 15th for Early Decision
  10. Early decision results, hopefully an acceptance. - December
  11. If not, time to submit your regular decision applications - Deadline January 1st or 2nd for most schools
  12. Deadlines, interviews and CSS/FAFSA profile submissions. - varies per school
  13. Acceptances and/or early acceptances. - February through April
  14. Appeals, letters of enthusiasm and email communication with your schools. -April-August
  15. Application for passports, and visas. As soon as you commit to a school. -Get your visa at least a month before you need to travel.
